YORKE and Mid North region representative Sal Allen has returned from the national Leading Australian Resilient Communities gathering in Canberra.
Employed by Community Care and Transport — Care in Motion, Minlaton, Sal helps with that org anisation’s marketing and coordinates the volunteer community visitors’ scheme.
During the gathering, Sal and Bec O’Leary, Clare, delivered a presentation about the LARC program’s impact on them.
The national pilot program was aimed at helping regional communities meet challenges, build resilience and collectively drive positive changes to seize opportunities for sustainable growth.
Graduates selected to attend the Canberra gathering came from 10 regions across Australia.
“We met His Excellency, General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, and Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley at a reception in their official residence, Government House,” Sal said.
“Mrs Hurley stirred us into a singalong before we heard from the Governor-General about the importance of programs that build resilience, particularly in rural regions.
“His Excellency also thanked all who put their hands up to lead in our communities.”
Another event highlight was a communications session led by ABC journalist Dan Bourchier, Sal said.
“It was a great privilege to represent Yorke Peninsula and the state, and to celebrate the progress everyday leaders like my fellow SA alumni are making in our wonderful communities.
“I’m keen to put what I learned into practice and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity for this as part of the team at Care in Motion.”
