COMMUNITY Care and Transport Care in Motion, based in Minlaton, held its annual general meeting at the Curramulka Community Club in October.
Guest speaker was Tony “Pilko” Pilkington, best known as one half of the iconic radio pairing Bazz (Barry Ion) and Pilko.
Michele Bennetts presided at the meeting instead of chair Brenton Chappell, who was unable to attend.
CEO David McDonald thanked the committee members, volunteers and staff for their ongoing support and commitment to helping people to be socially engaged and not isolated.
Mr McDonald said the 2022-23 financial year had arguably been the most remarkable, successful and significant in Care in Motion’s history.
The organisation’s annual report will soon be available on its website, www.community careandtransport.org.au, he said.
Pilko shared many humorous anecdotes with the volunteer members, Mr McDonald said.
The Bazz and Pilko show aired in Adelaide from 1976 to 1984, Sydney 1985-1991, then back in Adelaide until 1996.
“Pilko absolutely regaled our wonderful volunteer members and we cannot thank him enough for the numerous laughs and for sharing his fascinating lifetime of experiences,” Mr McDonald said.
“Over the years, he has been part of broadcasts from London, Los Angeles and (in a world first) Moscow.
“He has interviewed Beatle George Harrison, great train robber Ronnie Biggs, USA human rights activist Ethel Kennedy (her only ever media interview), Ugandan dictator Idi Amin and any number of movie and recording stars, sporting types and politicians.”
Mr McDonald also thanked the Curramulka Community Club team for providing a perfect venue and superb hospitality and catering.
